IATA cargo demand returns to growth in September

Read More » It was the second consecutive month of year-on-year growth in the air cargo market, after 19 straight months of CTK declines was snapped in August. "Air cargo eked out modest growth in September despite falling trade volumes and high jet fuel prices," IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. "That clearly shows the strength of air cargo’s value proposition." Walsh noted that while the manufacturing output Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) and the new export orders PMI were still in negative territory, the two closely watched indicators of manufacturing activity had risen slightly in September, compared with the previous month. "With the key export order and manufacturing PMIs hovering near positive territory, we can be cautiously optimistic for a strong year-end peak season," Walsh said. CTKs among Asia-Pacific airlines rose 7.7% year-on-year in September, IATA said.
