China Airlines sells a 747-400F, will retire three more of the jumbo freighters

Taiwan media reported mid-week that China Airlines (CAL) has sold a 747-400F to Korea’s Asiana Airlines for less than US$25 million. Read More » CAL expects to accept three new 777Fs into its fleet this year so it is expected CAL will offload three more 747-400 freighters by year-end. Pre-pandemic, CAL had a fleet of 21 747-400Fs, including three in storage. After this week’s sale, the airline will have 11 B747s. By December this year, CAL’s all-cargo fleet will be eight 747-400Fs and 10 777Fs. In September last year, CAL told Orient Aviation the company plays a pivotal role in the transportation of semiconductor machinery across the world due to the maturity of the Taiwanese industry. Priority is given to the 747-400F on routes favored for semiconductor equipment with higher demand, it said.
