Global air cargo demand “sharply upwards” in May

Capacity, or available cargo tonne kilometres (ACTK), was higher by 6.7% year-on-year, the airline lobby group said. “Air cargo demand moved sharply upwards in May across all regions,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. “The sector benefitted from trade growth, booming e-commerce and capacity constraints on maritime shipping. The outlook remains ‘largely positive’, he added. The Asia-Pacific recorded 17.8% CTK growth in May and was the runner-up to Africa's 18.4% expansion.
