Virgin Atlantic Airways terminating last China destination

Virgin Atlantic (VA) will cancel nonstop London Heathrow-Shanghai Pudong in October, local media reports, after operating the service for 25 years. Read More » The SkyTeam alliance member said the route’s significant challenges and complexities had led to the cancellation. VA’s last London-Shanghai and return rotation will be on October 26. Contributing to the decision were the longer flight times necessary to avoid Russia’s airspace after it invaded Ukraine, putting VA at a disadvantage compared with Mainland airlines that can fly across Russia. VA is one of four airlines operating between London (Gatwick and Heathrow) and Shanghai alongside Air China, British Airways and China Eastern Airlines.
