Cathay Pacific passengers up 36.1% in May

Cathay Pacific Airways flew 2.3 million customers across its network last month compared with the 1.7 million air travellers it transported in the same month a year earlier. Read More » Capacity expanded 31.2% year-on-year in 31 days and passenger load factor was higher by 4.4%. It was the airline’s best May result in a decade. “May typically is a quieter month for our travel business, but it exceeded expectations this year,” Cathay’s chief customer and commercial officer, Lavinia Lau, said. “This was boosted by strong long-haul demand from the early return of student traffic to Hong Kong and our well-received special fares campaign launched in February. Business travel remained robust, supported by traffic from Hong Kong to the Chinese Mainland and long-haul destinations in the Americas and the U. K.” Summer travel peak demand is forecast to be “healthy”, Lau said. Cathay Group LCC, HK Express, also recorded strong results with passengers transported improving 35.7% to 643,322 in the reported period.
