November 18th 2025
JAL Group cabin crew and airport staff will have the option of wearing sneakers as part of their uniform to support better workplace conditions. Read More » The policy change covers cabin crew at JAL Group’s six operating airlines - Japan Airlines, J-Air, Japan Air Commuter, Hokkaido Air System, Japan Transocean Air and Ryukyu Air Commuter - as well as about 14,000 staff working at 56 domestic and 40 overseas airports, including partner company employees. "Previously limited to black leather shoes, heels, or pumps, the official uniform will now include solid black sneakers as an alternative," JAL said. "This change aims to reduce physical strain and enhance comfort, enabling staff to deliver attentive and approachable service performance throughout their shifts." This latest change followed a relaxing of uniform rules earlier this year which allowed staff to wear open-collared shirts and fan-equipped safety vests in response to the summer heat.
