Australia’s airlines hurt by collapse of peak season international traffic

International travellers flying into and out of Australia in January averaged 2,180 a day, from 4.2 million in the same month a year ago. Read More » Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) said the January result was 15% lower than the 79,390 passengers carried in December. Capacity offered was 90.6% less for the month, at 477,378 seats, compared with 5.1 million seats in December 2019. Qatar Airways was the largest international carrier into and out of Australia in January with 9,541 passengers, just ahead of Singapore Airlines at 9,513. Air New Zealand (Air NZ) was in third place with 8,554 passengers.
