Russia’s updated Ilyushin aircraft completes successful maiden flight

The Russian Federation's Voronezh Aircraft Production Association said late last week its new Ilyushin Il-96-300 aircraft successfully completed its first flight on April 9. Read More » The aircraft, powered by four Aviadvigatel PS-90A engines, flew for about two hours at an altitude ranging from 5,000 to 9,000 metres, the company said. The four-engine Ilyushin Il-96-300 has been around since the 1980s, but this special production aircraft, registration RA-96024, features updated flight and navigation systems that met European and international standards the manufacturer said. The finished aircraft will operate in the VIP government fleet of Rossiya Airlines.
