Garuda Indonesia pays US$14.7 million fine for anti-competitive conduct
April 22nd 2021
Garuda Indonesia has agreed to pay a US$14.7 million penalty to settle an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) ruling for anti-competitive conduct in the air cargo market. Read More » The multi-million dollar penalty was handed down by Australia's Federal Court in May 2019 but Garuda appealed the decision. The ACCC said yesterday the airline had withdrawn the appeal and had agreed to pay the fine and a contribution to the ACCC's costs in monthly instalments over five years from December 2021 to December 2026. “The airline industry has suffered significantly because of the pandemic and these orders take account of that," ACCC chair, Rod Sims, said. "What is important is Garuda has been ordered to pay the full penalty for its role in this serious price-fixing cartel without a further appeal."
