More nations ban travellers from India as the nation’s daily coronavirus numbers escalate

Canada, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were the latest countries to change travel restrictions to and from India as the incidence of COVID-19 worsened across South Asia. Read More » Singapore's ministry of health said yesterday all long-term pass holders and short-term visitors who had been in India in the last 14 days would not be permitted to enter Singapore. The UAE has banned all international passenger flights to and from India for 10 days from April 24. Emirates Airline said on its website all its flights to and from India are suspended for the same 10 days. Overnight Canada banned flights from India and Pakistan for 30 days. "By eliminating direct travel from these countries, public health experts will have time to evaluate the epidemiology of that region and reassess the situation," Canada's Health Minister, Patty Hajdu, told reporters. India is battling a significant increase in COVID-19 infections, with 314,835 people testing positive to the disease yesterday. Earlier this week, Australia cut flights from India, New Zealand temporarily suspended arrivals from India and the UK added India to its travel red list.
