Lion Air Group returns six 737s to lessor: report

Flight tracking websites showed the 737s were flown to Alice Springs in central Australia for the lease return. The fleet reductions have taken place at a time Indonesia is fighting a surge in COVID-19 across the country's 17,000 island archipelago. It peaked at 56,757 new recorded infections in mid-July and now is sitting at about 40,000 a day. Lion Air Group's carriers, Batik Air, Lion Air and Wings Air in Indonesia, Malindo Air in Malaysia and Thai Lion in Thailand, recently stood down about 8,000 of their 23,000 strong workforce. The group is operating between 10% and 15% of its former daily capacity.
