Singapore has introduced a daily testing requirement for all arrivals on Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) flights and those travelling by land from Malaysia for the first seven days they are in the country in response to the emergence of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. Read More » Five of the seven tests will be self-administered, with results submitted online, while two tests must be conducted under supervision at a testing centre, the Singapore Ministry of Health said in a statement. "Our tightened border measures will help to limit importation and onward transmission of Omicron cases as we continue to study the variant’s characteristics. However, given its high transmissibility and spread to many parts of the world, we should expect to find more cases at our borders and in time to come, within our community," a ministry statement said.

In recent days, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has tightened travel and quarantine requirements for air travellers arriving from a host of countries including Chile, the Cook Islands, Iceland, Luxembourg, Maldives, Mexico, Romania, Senegal, Singapore and Tunisia. Under the new rules, non-Hong Kong residents who have stayed in these countries within the past 21 days were banned from entering Hong Kong. The HKSAR government said Hong Kong residents who were fully vaccinated were able to return but they would have to undertake 21 days of quarantine in a designated quarantine hotel and be tested for COVID-19 seven times – six while in quarantine and once more on the 26th day of arrival at Hong Kong.
