Read More » "This is positive news for the region’s airlines. Since the onset of the pandemic they have seen demand held back by the repeated imposition of strict border control measures," Menon said. AAPA figures show the region’s carriers flew 2.5 million passengers on scheduled international services in February, up 173.8% from 925,000 passengers flown in the same month in 2021. Compared with pre-COVID-19 levels, the January numbers were down 91.6% from the 30.3 million international passengers carried by airlines in the region in February 2019. AAPA numbers are aggregated from the traffic data of 40 Asia-Pacific airlines with figures of previous years adjusted for comparison purposes. Menon said Asia-Pacific airlines face new challenges from Russia's invasion of Ukraine, high fuel prices and inflationary pressures impacting passenger and cargo markets.
