Cathay Pacific Airways increases flying as restrictions ease at Hong Kong hub

Cathay Pacific Airways will add more flights to its schedule following the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's (HKSAR) announcement that services from nine countries - Australia, Canada, France, India, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, UK and the U.S. – will resume to Hong Kong from April 1. Read More » "With the recent adjustments to the flight-specific suspension mechanism, we are actively resuming more flights for our customers starting from April 1," the carrier said on its website. "We have added additional flights from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, London Heathrow, Sydney and Tokyo Narita [to Hong Kong] in our April schedule."
Separately, Bloomberg news agency has reported the oneworld alliance member was seeking over flight permits for a new flight path for its New York JFK-Hong Kong service in order to avoid Russian airspace. A staff memo showed the flight would operate over the Atlantic Ocean, the UK, southern Europe and central Asia, Blooomberg reported. Potentially it could be the longest route in the world by distance.
