March 30th 2022
Air New Zealand (Air NZ) has secured a 12-month contract extension, to March 2023, for the operation of cargo flights under the country's Maintaining International Air Connectivity (MIAC) scheme. Read More » The Star Alliance member will schedule about 60 flights a week under the scheme to destinations in Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong and nations in the Pacific Islands. The MIAC scheme will reduce its level of support over time to reflect an expected recovery in international air traffic demand, Air NZ said. It added the scheme’s extension is estimated to contribute about NZ$180 million (US$125.07 million) to cargo revenue in the 12 months to March 2023 compared with NZ$182 million in cargo revenue attributable to the MIAC scheme in the six months to December 31, 2021. Earlier this month, New Zealand minister for transport, Michael Wood, announced the MIAC scheme, due to end this month, was to be extended for one more year “to protect our links with the rest of the world and keep trade flowing”.
