CALC CEO expects airlines to “rely more” on lessors for capacity needs

Read More » "As production capacity of aircraft manufacturers is still limited in the short term, airlines are expected to rely more on lessors to meet their needs for passenger capacity expansion and fleet renewal while continuing to improve their balance sheets," Poon wrote in the company's annual report, published late last week. "The penetration rate of aircraft leasing is forecast to trend up." CALC chair, Zhao Wei, noted aircraft lessor share of the global commercial aviation market surpassed 50% for the first time in 2021 and is forecast to continue to climb in 2022. "The smaller and weaker players will quit the market while the more competent players, with strong operating capabilities and better shareholder backing, will capture better development opportunities, making the survivors thrive, the strong to get stronger," Zhao said.
