India’s airlines record July decline in domestic passengers

India’s airlines flew 9.7 million passengers on domestic flights in July, down 9.8% month-on-month from the 10.5 million in-country passengers they carried in June. Read More » But the July numbers were close to double the five million domestic passengers transported in the same month in 2021, figures from India's Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) show. Once again, LCC IndiGo was India's largest domestic airline for the month, with 5.7 million passengers transported or 58.8% of domestic market share. In a shakeup compared with recent rankings, full-service Vistara claimed second place with 1.01 million passengers flown, or 10.4% market share. Air India was in third place with 814,000 passengers (8.4% market share). In pre-COVID-19 July 2019, India's carriers flew 11.9 million passengers.
