Potential disruption at Australian airports averted as Dnata ground handlers call off strike

Australia's Transport Workers' Union (TWU) said ground handling workers at Dnata have called off proposed strike action after securing a new agreement on pay and conditions. Read More » Late last week, 96% of Dnata ground handling staff voted to strike for 24 hours on September 12 in protest against their wages and conditions. The protected industrial action could have disrupted the flights of up to 30 airlines flying into and out of Australia, including Qantas Airways. Dnata, owned by the Emirates Group, agreed to back pay staff an additional 12.6% in wages as well as a 4.6% increase for 2023, among other conditions. “They are thrilled to have locked in greater financial security and the possibility of converting casual and part-time roles to secure, full-time positions,” TWU national secretary, Michael Kaine, said.
